Perforations in the metal ceiling

The perforation of a metal panel allows to meet the needs of acoustic comfort. Thanks to this, the reflection of sound inherent in solid metal (non-perforated) disappears: it allows the acoustic complement its full performance while adding absorption linked to a visco-thermal dissipation effect of the acoustic energy inside the perforations and in the vicinity of the perforations which modifies the speed of the air particles and the pressure fields.

It is also part of the elements constituting the aesthetics of metal ceilings and wall panels.

Plafometal offers a wide range of perforation visible on the brochures Acoustic Metal Ceilings and Acoustiroc ® Acoustic metal wall panel, and represented according to compatibility on the System Sheets and Product Sheets.

4 criteria characterize a perforation

  • To perforate a ceiling and thus transform it into an acoustic metal ceiling, four criteria of prime importance must be respected:

THE PERFORATION RATE OR PORCENTAGE OF VOID

This is the percentage of the total surface area of the holes on the total surface area of the perforated part of the sheet metal

    THE SHAPE OF THE HOLES

    • Round
    • Oblong
    • Square
    • Rectangle

    THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE HOLES

    • M-shaped: this is a regular perforation in a 45° staggered pattern
    • U-shaped: this is a regular perforation in a line
    • There are other regular and irregular perforations (IRR)

    THE PERFORATION RANGE

Stopped Perforation (SP): the perforated area is stopped on the 4 edges of the visible face of the panel. There is a full peripheral border

Continuous Perforation (CP): the perforated area is stopped on the 2 longitudinal edges and continues to the end of the visible face of the panel

Total Perforation (TP): the perforated area is total including in the folds of the visible faces of the panel
